Question
Mar 19th, 2010, 9:33pm

I really like DS2 but the project looks dead due to the lack of updates for such a long time and I don't want to invest in a dead application.

Am I right to think this?

Hi Ian,

The latest word that I've seen on these forums from Brian was
in this thread:

Quote:
Thanks! I wish i had more time, so i could finally finish the next update. As i promised, it will be out. Someday

Taken together with other statements that Brian has made in these forums and the time that has elapsed, I think a reasonable interpretation is that Brian still intends to update DS2, but that he has been (and still is as far as I know) very busy with his job.  Thus, the timetable is uncertain and may involve a (perhaps very) considerable wait.

So I'd say it's more like DS2 being in a long sleep or coma than being dead.

Thanks for the reply Ted.

I am very impressed with DS2, its a very complete program, the integration of the piano roll and the tracker interface is a revelation. I do have Renoise but DS2 is much more approachable, better sounding and the interface is great.

I don't understand why its not more popular, it is VERY hard to find, I did not find it under Google at all (Search for tracker/sequencer etc...), only through a direct link on another forum. In the way of a suggestion... maybe a marketing rethink would help?

But all this is immaterial, no matter how good the product is, it needs some sort of official support. So unless the author at least replies here, I can't, in all good concious, even think of buying.  Embarrassed

DS2 should be freeware eventually, Ian.  Brian announced that in one of the threads back in 2008 if I remember correctly.  Unfortunately, it looks like Brian's busy schedule has delayed that as well  Sad
